Unlimited broadband explained

Unlimited broadband gives that bit more flexibility to heavy broadband users. If you are sick of coming up against your download limit every month it is worth considering the "Unlimited" broadband deals listed above.

Sales in PS3s, PSPs, Nintendo Wiis as well as laptops, have sky-rocketed in the past few years. Further, as these devices are increasingly being used to connect to the internet, many households are hitting and exceeding their download limits on a monthly basis. Unlimited broadband, therefore, has a growing niche in the market.

Unlimited broadband suits heavy-users like:

  • Hard-core gamers- especially those playing MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) such as the very popular World of Warcraft.
  • Families- with multiple devices such as PCs, laptops and gaming consoles using broadband.
  • Heavy film and music downloaders- especially Peer-to-Peer enthusiasts.

As you may have already suspected, unlimited broadband is not always completely "unlimited". If you’re on an ADSL line then you share your internet connection with the people around you and there is a finite limit to the amount of information that ADSL lines can transmit. Hence ISPs try to make sure that "super-users" don't unfairly slow down the connection for others by subjecting users to "Fair Usage Policies".

Fair usages policies are your ISPs way of trying to manage cyber-traffic fairly. Essentially when used, fair usage policies work by limiting the speed of your connection during peak times. For more information on FUPs read our Fair Usage Policy Guide.
