Home broadband explained

When choosing a home broadband package there are a number of factors to consider. These include:

How many people/devices will be using the connection?

  • As broadband speeds are shared between all users, the more users accessing the connection the slower the speeds. This is especially important for gamers for whom a fast connection is integral.
  • As well as impacting the speed you can expect to achieve, the more people using a connection the higher the download allowance needed. In the case where 3 or more people are sharing a broadband line, an unlimited broadband package may be the best option to consider.

Do you need a wireless router?

  • If you are planning on using wireless laptops and gaming consoles, wireless broadband is a must.
  • If however, the broadband connection will only be used by a stationary PC, a wireless router is not a priority.

Are there minors in your home?

If you are concerned about the content that your child may be viewing online you should consider choosing either AOL or BT as they provide extensive parental controls to try and help you make sure your children are safe on the internet by filtering out URLs which they consider to be unsuitable.
