Company history

Plusnet has been providing internet services since the company started out over a decade ago. In 1994, Plusnet established itself as a dial-up ISP and has continued to move with the times by expanding its horizons to broadband. In 2004 Plusnet doubled the size of its customer base and is now one of the UK’s leading ISPs with almost 250,000 customers.

The company as it currently exists is the amalgamation of 3 other communications companies; Force9, Free-Online and Metronet. By working in conjunction with these sister companies Plusnet draws from a bank of technological expertise, giving them the know-how to be a highly competent ISP. Plusnet’s connections with BT Broadband also mean that they will soon be bringing you the latest broadband technology, such as the BT Home Hub setup.

Plusnet has a pragmatic work ethic and is dedicated to providing good quality services at the lowest possible rates. Moreover, the company have won several awards for their customer service showing that they are geared towards what you want as an internet user.

Voted Best Overall Provider in a recent survey, Plusnet offers excellent customer service with a number of ways to get in touch. The online Help Assistant should cover the most frequently asked questions, however there is also a ‘Contact Us’ facility available for direct email support. Customers can then view the status of their email query by accessing their online account page.

For standard support queries, customers can call a low rate line which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Plusnet’s unique Customer Call Statistics page offers honest data on current call waiting times so you know how long you might be waiting when you call.

Plusnet have an array of packages, all offering a free 1-port router, plus activation set-up (when staying with Plusnet for a minimum of 12 months, otherwise £29.99). Additionally, Package 2 comes with a 1-port wireless router and activation set-up (usually £29.99, free when staying for a minimum of 12 months) and Package 3, a 4-port wireless router and activation set-up (usually £64.99, free when staying for a minimum of 12 months).

All packages provide Sophos Anti-Virus software, which is updated daily with the latest information from the Plusnet servers. The security package also includes spam protection and personal firewall.

Email features

Customers receive a default mailbox, with up to 5 ‘alias’ addresses included (subscription accounts receive an unlimited amount). Alias addresses redirect mail to the default mailbox given during sign-up and are useful when not wanting to give out a real address. Furthermore, PlusNet offer a free webspace allowance of up 250Mb depending on the type of account, with a free Website Wizard for easy set-up.

You can save money by telling people about PlusNet. They offer £25 per recommendation along with monthly discounts when you refer a friend or family member. They also offer the opportunity for users to add Plusnet banners to their websites, with a range of sizes and designs to pick from, which will make money for every click received.
