There are 50+ broadband providers in operation in the UK, however we only list the biggest broadband providers in this section (whether for home or mobile broadband).

Broadband providers come in all shapes and sizes, there are a few very large broadband providers like and there are smaller providers. The list of broadband providers is slightly overwhelming, hence broadband comparison sites are a great way to compare lots of broadband packages at once. We do not recommend this area for a broadband package comparison, rather this section is intended as a brief summary of the UK broadband provider landscape. All major home broadband providers can now offer ADSL broadband UK-wide with the exception of Virgin Media's cable service and Be Broadband which offer high-specification broadband (whether cable or ADSL2 or ADSL+) only available in some areas.

• Be: is a high-speed broadband provider that offers great value broadband to a growing number of UK broadband customers. They specialise in gaming broadband and won the gaming broadband prize in our recent broadband awards.

• Tiscali: is a popular broadband provider, specialising in low-cost broadband, TV and home phone bundles.

• Orange: is both a home and mobile broadband provider as well as a mobile phone operator.

• PlusNet: is a small ISP that offers tailor-made packages to customers along with excellent customer support. PlusNet won the small ISP award in the recent Top 10 Broadband awards.

• Sky: is one of the biggest digital TV providers in the UK, it has recently begun offering broadband and home phone services as part of broadband bundles, Sky is a fast-growing broadband provider.

• Madasafish: offers excellent value broadband packages that include home phone and broadband bundles, Madasafish are known as the friendly broadband provider, leaving aside their cheesy Mad Fish icon, Madasafish is a broadband are a provider to be taken seriously.

• Eclipse: is a specialist business broadband provider that also offers home broadband to UK customers.

• UK Online: are a fast broadband provider, offering UK broadband customers speeds of up to 16Mb, making it a popular provider for gamers and businesses alike.

• 3: is a mobile phone provider that has turned its attention to becoming a mobile broadband provider too. Offering both pure mobile broadband and mobile broadband and laptop packages. 3 won the prestigious mobile broadband award in the recent Top 10 Broadband awards.

• Vodafone: is another mobile operator turned mobile broadband provider, Vodafone offer a range of excellent value mobile broadband packages at speeds of up to 7.2Mb. Vodafone recently won the student broadband award for their mobile broadband packages that include a free PAYG mobile phone - making it ideal for students.

• T-Mobile: were late-comers to the mobile broadband market, besides this they have made an impressive splash in the market and are currently the only UK mobile broadband provider to offer unlimited broadband packages.
