Survey to consider broadband speeds in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council is organising a broadband speed study as it bids to establish the precise web service needs of local businesses and consumers.

The authority claims that broadband provision varies across Wiltshire, with many people living outside urban areas continuing to lack adequate services.

According to This is Wiltshire, the research findings will be used on a national level to make sure the county is not ignored in any UK broadband infrastructure developments.

John Brady, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Planning and Housing, told the news provider: "Wiltshire covers a large geographic area and it is very important for the economic success of the county that all residents have access to broadband services.

"This is an important piece of research that will be used to secure the digital future of Wiltshire."

Last week, MP Philip Dunne told the Ludlow Advertiser that both the government and private sector firms must commit to offering faster broadband in rural areas.
