Sky sets April launch date for 3D digital TV channel

Sky is launching its 3D TV service in April

Subscribers to Sky's broadband TV deals will be able to enjoy the company's eagerly-anticipated 3D channel from April, it has been confirmed.

Sky has revealed that the service will initially only be available to hundreds of pubs, as its programming is expected to predominantly focus on live Premier League content every week.

The channel, which will be available through the company's existing Sky+HD set-top boxes, is then expected to be launched for homeowners when 3D-ready TVs reach the consumer market.

However, the service will be previewed at nine specially-selected pubs across the UK this weekend, when Sky is set to show the live Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester United in the format.

Jeremy Darroch, the Chief Executive of the company, said: "Sky has always innovated to bring customers the best possible viewing experience, so we fully intend to take the lead in bringing the spectacle of 3D to the UK and Ireland."

Details about the service have come as Sky published its latest trading update for the final three months of 2009, which revealed that over 100,000 new customers joined its broadband service over the period.

    @Dan Must be some press embargo on it. None of the papers that reported it and have revealed where they are.
