People living in Bournemouth get the fastest broadband in Britain, according to research by the UK’s most popular broadband comparison website, Top 10 Broadband.

Over the past two months Top 10 Broadband, compiled almost 200,000 broadband speed tests carried out by users of its website in over 2,600 postcodes across the UK. Based on this data, Bournemouth came out top with an average download speed of over 8Mb, which is the equivalent of downloading an album in around 6 minutes, or a movie in 100 minutes – nearly twice as fast as the national average.*

The Dorset seaside town beat off competition from south coast rival Portsmouth, and was over 1Mb faster than some of the UK’s biggest cities such as Manchester and Birmingham.

Edinburgh – with an average broadband speed of 6.38Mb – was the highest placed Scottish city but it could only come 14th on the list, just ahead of London in 15th on 6.63Mb. Swansea was the fastest Welsh city, at 19th on the list and with average speeds of 6.20Mb.
