TalkTalk highlights importance of broadband speed

Broadband speed is still one of the top issues for internet users, as the furore surrounding the government's plans for 2Mb universal broadband shows.
That is according to ISP TalkTalk, which suggested on its company blog that most comments on the Digital Britain report have criticised the proposed minimum speed of UK broadband by 2012.
It highlighted arguments which have been made by several sources indicating that 2Mb broadband for all would put the UK significantly behind countries such as South Korea, Japan, France and Germany.
"This debate only goes to prove that speed is one of the hottest topics for broadband users," TalkTalk wrote.
The Digital Britain report advised last month that "self-help" measures could help half of the 800,000 UK households currently suffering broadband speeds of less than 2Mb to reach this threshold.
Tiscali UK broadband customers could soon be moved onto TalkTalk's service after the ISP was acquired by Carphone Warehouse, which already operates the latter.
