Cash machines will become Wi-Fi hotspots

BT has signed a five-year deal with UK ATM supplier Cashbox which will see cash-dispensing sites become Wi-Fi hotspots enabling wireless broadband connectivity.

Although only ten cashpoints will become hotspots in the immediate future, there is potential for significant expansion as Cashbox has a presence in more than 2,500 locations across the country.

BT broadband customers set to benefit include those with inclusive Wi-Fi minutes and O2 iPhone users.

Wireless broadband connectivity can also be achieved through the purchase of BT Openzone vouchers, either on a monthly basis or as part of a pay-as-you-go deal.

"We are seeing huge demand for Wi-Fi in the leisure and hospitality sector," commented Chris Bruce, General Manager at BT Openzone.

"BT customers can also connect at over 190,000 residential and commercial hotspots in the UK and Ireland including BAA airports, BA lounges, Caffe Nero, Hilton, Thistle and Ramada Jarvis hotels and, from July 2009, Starbucks coffee stores."

Visitors to the SkyTeam lounge at Heathrow's Terminal 4 are now also able to take advantage of free wireless broadband thanks to BT Openzone.
