TalkTalk download limit "generous"

Fixed-line broadband users signed up to TalkTalk should be able to stick within the 40GB download limit imposed by the provider, according to one expert.

TalkTalk recently announced a raft of price plan changes, with any subscriber now exceeding the 40GB allowance subject to a £5 charge.

Michael Phillips, Product Director at Broadband Choices, has suggested that 40GB is a large quota and that users have the option of increasing this limit at an added cost.

The broadband comparison website representative commented: "40GB a month is a generous download allowance."

Going on to point out: "For £4 a month TalkTalk also offers a Download Plus Boost for heavy downloaders wanting to double their allowance to a massive 80GB a month."

TalkTalk customers who also rent their phone lines from the company will see their monthly fee rise from £10.50 to £11.25 as part of the new changes.

    I personally think this is ridiculous. all other providers offer some sort of Unlimited package for broad band, and just playing online with Xbox360 will eat up that tiny little 40Gig allowance. in seoul south korea they have 1000Meg broadband and unlimited downloads for £10 per month!

    Im a talk talk customer and most of the time i cannot get online, my internet keeps dropping out and a majority of the time i cannot lok at two pages at once so rather than restricting there customers should they not be trying to better themselves in a customer facing way?!

    Personally ive had flawless service with them. Only had to call them a few times and they were amazing.
    You're right that many have an unlimited download limit yet their fair usage policies wont allow you to get anywhere close to 80Gig in a month.

    For the cost of the product it far outweighs the service ive had in the past from Virgin and Sky broadband wise.

    as an avid user of virgins unlimtied broadband package i was sorry to leave then after moving in with my now wife and having talk talk as my new ISP,so far no problems,with download limits or tech issues.

    I will say that i reckon ive come close to peakin at the 40GB mark and if its only a fiver for goin over that regardless of by how much then im all for it,an extra 4 pound for double your monthly allowance seems a good deal to me,download speeds are quite good too,films in 40 minutes...and online gaming via the Wii is flawless.

    talk talk sucks, p2p traffic blocked, no unlimited download, no option as a client to take advantage of new Pro package.

    Talk Talk are the worst provider I've been with and I'm looking forward to leaving them in the next six months. I was previously with Virgin broadband who I consider the best internet provider in this country. I only left virgin because the area I currently live in is not a cable area.

    There fibre optic cable compared with the awful stone age telephone line conection of every other provider, is what makes them the best in the UK. I never had to worry about download limits and losing conection while I was in the middle of browsing the web. And the download speed was amazing. Not needing a telephone to conect to the web helped as it was cheaper that way with Virgin Broadband. Besides, with the government wanting to tax the telephone connection providers like Talk Talk and BT it makes sense to go with Virgin :)

    Joined TalkTalk Pro in November on LLU and its been great. More than double the speed over the stone age BT network.

    I have found them very helpful with setting up my line to get the best possible download speeds.I wish I had joined them earlier.

    I recently became a TalkTalk customer when they bought Tiscali. Their first action was to increase my monthly bill by 33%,

    When I phoned to query this, they told me that the extra cash was because I was getting a 'totally new product' and promised me that I would soon see a vast difference in the quality of my broadband.

    This turned out to be true, but not as I'd expected. My broadband speed is now so pathetically slow that it reminds me of the old dialup days. Watch videos on YouTube? Forget it. Play on-line games? Forget it.

    I think it's time to get my MAC and try to find a real ISP...

    Same here. TalkTalk has put up the price and thats that. The worst thing is that i dont want a 8 meg connection. What for?
    A few mails and a bit of surfing and i am paying for everybody else. Well i am not. So I have cleared out my mail and I'm ready to go.

    Of course i could change package but then they want me to sign up for an 18 month contract. I have been with tiscali for nearly 10 years and don't feel thats fair.
