Virgin Media makes ADSL improvement

Virgin Media has announced that it is doubling the speed of its ADSL packages from 8Mb to 16Mb.
The announcement comes as plans are afoot to upgrade the provider’s cable offering from 20Mb to a high-speed 50Mb service.
This move means that telephone customers with the firm will not be lagging behind those receiving broadband by cable to the same extent.
While customers will see their connections speeded up free-of-charge for the first three months, they will then have to pay an extra £5 to continue enjoying the improved service.
"We just want people to give it a go," a Virgin Media spokesperson told PC Pro.
The representative then went on to explain that there is no obligation to sign a fixed-term deal for the added speed, saying: "If the faster service is for them, they can pay to keep it going, but at least we know they’ve seen it."
Virgin Media’s new offer comes after TalkTalk offered broadband subscribers the chance to triple speeds from 8Mb to 24Mb for an extra monthly £5.
