No IPTV roll-out imminent, says Orange chief
5th November 2008
In the face of an ultra-competitive market, Orange has put its plans for an IPTV service on hold.
Reuters reports Orange UK chief executive Tom Alexander saying that there is "no roll-out imminent".
The provider has also revised plans to push-ahead with a fixed-line roll-out in the UK.
At a briefing in central London, Alexander told the assembled press gang that Orange would be concentrating more on the quality of its service rather than extending its network.
According to IPTV News: "The executive added that Orange has run a trial of the service in the UK, following success in France and other countries, and had been ready to roll out, but decided that it was too similar to BT’s service ‘BT Vision’, hence the desire to rethink the service."
BT, Virgin Media, Carphone Warehouse, Tiscali and BSkyB are all ahead of Orange in the UK’s fixed-line broadband stakes.
