BT phone bill cut helps broadband users save

BT has announced plans to slash the cost of its line rental by £6 for millions of users on lower incomes.
The telecoms giant has confirmed that households currently receiving broadband from any ISP will be able to apply for the discount, meaning broadband subscribers could pocket a saving, reports Scotland’s Daily Record.
The BT Basic line rental package is being aimed at residents on income support, job seekers allowance or guaranteed pensions credit.
"We are really pleased that people with pay-as-you-go mobile phones or broadband access will not be disqualified from applying," Tony Herbert of the Citizen’s Advice Bureau told the newspaper.
While David Sinclair of Help the Aged commented: "Help the Aged are pleased that BT are offering broadband technology through their BT Basic offer and we are delighted that the company is committed to moving qualifying customers over to the service automatically."
The BT Basic offering replaces BT’s ‘Light User’ and ‘In Contact Plus’ schemes.
