The newly-released results of a poll suggest that the UK has not yet got to grips with wireless.

A study by Broadband Choices has found that many Brits do not seem to realise that all they need is a router to enjoy wireless and that some still appear to regard the technology as a separate offering from fixed-line broadband.

Some 44 per cent of those who did not have wireless broadband cited their reason as being worried about dealing with the technicalities, while 25 per cent complained that their supplier did not offer a wireless broadband package.

Michael Phillips, Broadband Choices product director, commented: "It would appear that ISP’s are helping to create these misconceptions that stop customers from taking advantage of the benefits of wireless - especially during the summer months when they could be online while topping up their tan in the garden."

Worryingly, 27 per cent claimed that they were reluctant to use wireless broadband for fear of compromising their bank details.
