TalkTalk rapped over TV ad

TalkTalk rapped over TV ad

24th September 2008

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has taken a television advertisement off air after receiving several complaints.

Ten viewers complained after noticing that the commercial, which promised "free broadband" with a land line subscription, did not note that the service was not available in some parts of the country.

According to the ASA, the advert proclaimed: "At TalkTalk we believe broadband should be free. When you get your landline from us we give you broadband that’s free. You also get unlimited evening & weekend calls to UK landlines and to 36 destinations worldwide."

The news comes after a number of customers in the Yorkshire area recently complained to local newspapers that they had been sold ‘free’ TalkTalk broadband by unofficial dealers when accessing the service turned out to cost extra.

It is feared that doorstep salesman, aware that there is no free broadband in certain areas, are tempting residents into signing contracts for the service.
