The results of a newly-released survey show that over half of UK broadband users are spending longer online during 2008.

Research from ISPreview shows that 51 per cent of those quizzed are spending longer periods of time online this year than in 2007.

It was also found that over half of respondents are spending more than 24 hours a week connected to the internet via broadband.

Explaining the trend, Mark Jackson, ISPreview’s editor-in-chief, commented: "Broadband internet access has finally become an established form of both entertainment and productivity in the home, with growing consumer confidence and experience allowing people to make better use of their Internet connections than ever before."

Only a tiny percentage of 0.3 per cent said that they were spending less than one hour per week online.

Figures from the Office of National Statistics also indicate that the number of households with broadband connections has increased - to 56 per cent in 2008 from 51 per cent in 2007.
