Fibre optimum for business
8th September 2008
Fibre-optic broadband is ideal for businesses that wish to send and receive data as efficiently as possible, says BT.
BT recently announced plans for the UK-wide deployment of a 100Mb fibre-optic broadband network reaching over 10 million addresses at a cost of over £1.5 billion.
Speaking to Crain’s Manchester Business, BT spokesman Mike Bartlett, has stressed the benefit a fibre-optic network will have for business in Britain.
He commented: "It’s for people who need to send a lot of data very quickly, very securely and very reliably.
"If you’re trying to send massive files to a different office on a copper network, you can have problems. With a fibre network, that can happen pretty much instantly."
Virgin Media has a 50Mb service - trialled in September 2007 - planned to be rolled out by the end of the year.
