‘Leave UK broadband market to flourish’

The government is expected to be advised to not intervene in the UK broadband market in a review soon to be published.
Leader of the review, Francesco Caio, a former chief executive of Cable & Wireless, will present his findings to ministers this autumn, reports the Guardian.
Mr Caio believes the UK broadband infrastructure should be left alone to flourish without huge state investment.
He warned against "putting £15 billion into the ground" in the form of a super-fast fibre-optic broadband when wireless technology is advancing at a quick rate.
"What is emerging is that the UK is still one of the most dynamic markets across Europe," Mr Caio told the Royal Television Society’s magazine, Television.
Last year, Stephen Timms, minister for competitiveness, declared his intention to speed up the development of a high-speed broadband infrastructure in the UK.
