BT domination of fixed-line
1st September 2008
BT dominance of the UK home broadband market has been underlined, with newly-released figures estimating the firm welcomes a new customer every 40 seconds.
The telecoms giant now has over four million broadband customers in the UK - the first broadband provider to reach this significant milestone last year.
Now new calculations published in the Edinburgh News reveal that three customers every two minutes sign up for broadband with BT
The number of customers has ballooned since BT possessed only 172,000 broadband contract holders back in 2002.
"Four million customers is a great achievement in such a short time," BT Retail chief executive Ian Livingston said in 2007 on news of the provider’s accomplishment.
He added: "Broadband has proved to be one of the most popular new services ever seen."
