Mobile broadband subscribers on the up

According to new figures released by Communications market research firm Infonetics Research, the number of mobile broadband subscribers is forecast to grow at a 104 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2007 to 2011.
By 2011, the firm expects one mobile broadband customer for every four fixed line contract holders.
Stephane Teral, principal analyst at Infonetics Research, commented: "Subscribers in Brazil, Russia, and later this year China, are migrating to 3G, which in turn will lead to a 2G and 2.5G to 3G subscriber migration process in 2008.
"However, current GSM deployment patterns remain unabated, with double-digit GSM subscriber growth rates being common in BRIC countries."
It was also found that VoIP subscriber penetration is increasing, fuelled by the decline in the number of access lines and continuation of broadband penetration.
The Caribbean and Latin America were found to be the only places where the number of access lines is forecast to grow.
