DSL is ‘connection of choice’

DSL is the most common technology used in global enterprise broadband network access links, according to new research.
Industry analyst Ovum’s latest figures show that 68 per cent of global enterprise connections are now based on DSL access technologies.
Among the forecasts made by Ovum was that by 2012, the global Ethernet supply market growing from 5.7 million to 10.9 million connections.
In other predictions for the future of broadband access technologies, Ovum believes that "growth in ADSL will slow due to market saturation in developed regions such as Western Europe and North America".
And that "in contrast, in the less developed regions we see continued growth for DSL services as well as growth in other technologies such as fixed wireless access and fibre".
Ovum also foresees a rise and fall in broadband access revenues over the coming years, increasing to $62.4 billion (£32.7 billion) by 2009, before dropping to $55.6 billion (£29.1 billion) in 2012.
