BT in Ireland speed-up

BT has announced plans to speed-up its broadband network in Ireland.
The telecoms giant will increase broadband speeds up to 24Mb across the Republic, with homes and businesses currently enjoying 8Mb broadband having their connections upgraded free-of-charge.
According to Silicon Republic, the move could be in response to services launched by rivals Magnet and UPC, who are offering speeds of 50Mb and 20Mb respectively.
Emer Kennedy, director of BT’s consumer division, explained: "Our investment in a next-generation network in Ireland enables us to radically shake up the market by trebling broadband speeds without increasing prices."
"By making the maximum attainable speed available on our network, we are ensuring that BT customers have access to the fastest possible DSL service available from any operator in Ireland today."
While those on 8Mb will not have to pay for their speed-increase, customers still on the 1Mb deal will need to sign up for the new offer.
