Broadband provider Be Broadband says it supports the British Phonographic Industry’s (BPI) new anti-piracy campaign.

Yesterday (Thursday, July 24th) it was announced that - with the encouragement of the government - the BPI and six major broadband providers had signed an agreement relating to a clamp down on internet users who are seen to be downloading music illegally.

Now Be Broadband, not one of the firms to put its name to the agreement, has confirmed it will be supporting the measures, but warned that it would not be giving out user information at the drop of a hat.

Be Broadband’s head of marketing, Oli White, told Tech Radar: "We are getting an increasing number of requests for information about members who [third parties] believe have infringed their copyright or other intellectual property rights.

"To keep members informed of what’s going on in most circumstances we will try to contact the member in question to make them aware that we have had a request from the rights holder."

The O2-owned company admitted that in the case of a Court Order being served requiring it to pass on customer information, it would be required to do so.
