Discussions have taken place in the Welsh county of Powys with a view to solving the area’s long-running broadband problem.

Representatives of the private and public sector have staged meetings with politicians during the Royal Welsh Show to address the issue of Powys as a broadband ‘notspot’, reports the BBC.

Despite the fact 99 per cent of people in Wales have access to broadband, some of the more rural areas in the country are known to suffer from black holes in the network.

Chairman of Powys council’s board, Michael Jones, commented: "In a rural area like Powys, broadband can make a significant difference to both businesses and individuals.

"It is critical that deficiencies are recognised and addressed to ensure people in Powys are able to benefit from this technology."

Powys County Council was recently reported to have deployed new mobile units equipped with satellite technology in order to provide high-speed broadband to deprived areas of the country.
