Carphone rejected in Tiscali bid

Carphone Warehouses has failed to make a shortlist of second round bidders for broadband provider Tiscali, it has been reported.

Following a company board meeting last night, Tiscali chief executive Mario Rosso was charged with drawing up the list of six bidders being considered for a potential buyout.

Prominent among them are BSkyB and Vodafone, which are expected to make bids upwards of £550 million for the UK arm of the business, the Times reports.

Carphone Warehouse chief executive Charles Dunstone has been keen to make an offer for the company in order to combine Tiscali's 1.7 million customers with its own TalkTalk customers, which would have made it the biggest broadband supplier in the country.

Although details of the list have not been made public, other potential bidders are expected to include BT and Italian firm Fast-web.

Earlier this week ITPro suggested that Vodafone would have considered a partnership deal with Carphone Warehouse if a Tiscali bid was successful.
