Couple ‘missing out on broadband’

A couple who live just 15 miles outside of Aberdeen have been told they will probably never get home broadband access.
The Press and Journal reports that Michael and Julie Wood were told by BT that it would cost too much to connect their home in Midmar, Aberdeenshire.
Although their home was originally connected to a BT exchange, the signal was too weak for them to hear people on the other end of the line.
When the couple complained to BT, they were told that they had been placed on the wrong exchange and that it would be too costly to switch them to a closer local access point.
"They told us they are under no legal obligation to provide us with a line at all," Ms Wood explained.
Having cancelled their contract, the couple are now filing a complaint with Ofcom.
The news follows the recent publication of a broadband market report by the telecoms watchdog which suggested that the digital divide would soon become a thing of the past.
