Dell laptops to ship with mobile broadband

Dell’s next generation laptops will feature mobile broadband functionality supplied by Ericsson, it has been announced.
The telecoms service provider has revealed that Dell will offer laptops with built-in mobile broadband modems later this year.
Ericsson stated that the move comes in response to a growing need to keep people connected across the world. Furthering this, the laptops will be capable of seamless roaming on tri-band high-speed networks.
"Consumers are increasingly utilising notebooks to access the high-capacity services that they have typically experienced only through a wired or Wi-Fi connection," said Mats Norin, vice president of Mobile Broadband Modules at Ericsson.
Ericsson asserts that by 2011, an estimated 200 million notebooks will be shipped globally. The group predicts that 50 per cent of these will feature built-in mobile broadband functionality.
Analyst firm Gartner has recently asserted that emerging communications technologies will aid the creation of a "borderless state" by 2015 as national connectivity barriers are broken down.
