Huawei dongle \'cheap, convenient and secure\'

Huawei dongle ‘cheap, convenient and secure’

15th May 2008

Mobile broadband provider 3’s Huawei modem has been praised for its security and usability in a recent Guardian article.

Writing for the paper, Andrew Brown describes the company’s dongle as an attractive alternative for those who have found themselves charged £6 per hour for the privilege of using wireless broadband services in coffee shops.

"Unlike conventional wireless broadband, a 3G data modem works more or less anywhere (at least in the south of England) and does so with very little fuss," Mr Brown suggests.

He adds that with plug and play software installed on the modem itself, the company’s mobile broadband services are easy to access on most laptops, even those without optical drives.

Mr Brown concludes by asserting that mobile broadband services are often more secure than shared wireless networks, which he suggests are very rarely encrypted.

The company has recently reduced the price of its pay as you go dongles, which are now available for £49.99.
