BT connects 12.7m customers

Telecoms provider BT has announced that its Wholesale division was responsible for connecting 12.7 million broadband customers up to March 31st.
In its first quarterly results for 2008, BT announced that its market share for this period stood at 35 per cent, amounting to approximately 4.45 million people using the company’s retail broadband services.
Many UK internet service providers use BT Wholesale networks to connect their customers and the company has recorded more than £1 billion worth of new contracts negotiated in the first three months of this year.
Sir Michael Rake, BT chairman, commended chief executive officer (CEO) Ben Verwaayen for his contribution to the company.
"Ben has been an exceptional CEO who has transformed the business through his vision and determination. Under his leadership, BT has developed a strategy which has delivered consistent profitable growth," Mr Rake commented.
Mr Verwaayen leaves BT at the end of this month, to be replaced by current retail boss Ian Livingstone.
