Orange failings put ‘in sharp relief’

8th May 2008

First quarter results from Orange have highlighted the shortcomings of the broadband provider in recent months, the Guardian suggests.

A loss of 31,000 broadband customers over the first three months of this year brings into focus the magnitude of the job facing new UK boss Tom Alexander, says Richard Wray, communications editor for the publication.

"Company insiders maintain that the business has been focusing on providing better service to its existing customers, having suffered some serious service issues last year, rather than grabbing market share," he suggests.

However, Mr Wray asserts that Orange is now left with a lot of ground to make up, with rivals Sky and TalkTalk both gaining subscribers during the same period and Virgin Media and BT expected to publish similar results soon.

Orange has also received bad publicity in recent weeks after being voted worst broadband provider in a poll by price comparison service uSwitch.
