Quad-play broadband packages are likely to meet with widespread approval in the coming years, it has been claimed.

Industry analyst eMarketer explains that research has found many internet users would support the addition of mobile telecoms to existing triple-play services.

Such packages traditionally comprise broadband internet, television and telephony services.

Ben Macklin, senior analyst at eMarketer, says: "By 2012, there will be over 533 million broadband households worldwide."

"A substantial and growing number of these broadband users will also subscribe to a bundle of services," he predicts.

The publication cites research by analytics firm Compete which previously found that more than 40 per cent of respondents would be likely to consider buying mobile services from their existing telecoms supplier.

However, broadband remains the most sought-after aspect of such packages, with 97 per cent of those queried listing it as the key service in triple-play or quad-play bundles.

The news came amid growing interest in bundled services, with Compete noting a 55 per cent increase in enthusiasm among consumers between July 2007 and March 2008.
