Mobile broadband surge seen by 3

Mobile broadband provider 3 has demonstrated that the amount of traffic on its 3G network has increased dramatically in the past six months.
With a sharp rise in the number of people using mobile broadband reported, the company has released statistics demonstrating that 3G traffic was 14 times higher in March than it was in October 2007.
The BBC reports while the increase in traffic includes both mobile phone and internet use, it is mobile broadband that is responsible for the sharp increase.
It explains that while 3 mobile phone users have been downloading more than a million music tracks per month, the amount of bandwidth required for this is minimal in comparison to the "industrial quantities" consumed by mobile broadband users.
Furthermore, 3 is not the only operator to see increased usage, with Vodafone also witnessing a dramatic rise in sales of mobile broadband dongles.
To support the growing number of people using the services, chief executive officer of the company Kevin Russell has told Mobile Today that 3 is learning from its experiences in Sweden and Austria in an attempt to ensure that the network does not come under too much strain.
