Government to review broadband

The government has announced that it will review its role in the way high-speed broadband is delivered throughout the UK.
British business and competitiveness minister Shriti Vadera announced that the review was necessary to keep up with continuing technological developments that will transform the way people share information.
It follows a number of recent assertions that the government should take a more active role in improving access to high-speed broadband across the country.
Kip Meek, chairman of the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG), said the organisation supported the development.
"The review addresses some of the BSG’s central concerns about next-generation broadband and we’ll be fully engaged to support its work," he added.
A key aim of the review will be to assess ways of minimising the costs of nationwide ultra-fast broadband deployments, which some internet service providers are unwilling to pay for without assistance.
Anthony Walker, chief executive of the BSG, has told the BBC recently that an active debate on the delivery of high-speed internet will be a key issue facing the industry in the future.
