Intel looks to future of UK wireless broadband

Wireless broadband services in the UK could be set for an overhaul, Intel reveals.
The company has entered into collaboration with Wi-Max services provider Freedom4, formerly known as Pipex Wireless.
Under the terms of the scheme, the two firms are to work towards a more complete wireless broadband infrastructure for the UK.
Pipex Communications has also promised to invest funds into the programme, Intel asserts.
Mike Read, chief executive officer of Freedom4, comments: "We are in the next phase of our development - making Freedom4 the market leader in personal wireless broadband access."
He adds that the funds from Intel and Pipex Communications will help to roll out Wi-Max broadband coverage to cities around the UK.
This follows the technology being put in place by Freedom4 in Milton Keynes as part of a commercial launch described as a "success" by Mr Read.
Intel chief executive officer Paul Otellini recently claimed that the firm is working towards allowing consumers to have internet access via handheld devices capable of fitting in their pockets.
