Tiscali to offer online protection services
5th February 2008
Tiscali has announced a new partnership with internet security firm Crisp that will bring its customers the latest in technology designed to identify online relationships.
It will be one of the first internet service providers in the world to provide the service, which will be offered to customers from March 2008.
The technology will be available for download and is due to be charged on a subscription basis, with annual rates costing £42 or a monthly tariff of £3.50 a month.
Crisp’s technology works by identifying potentially dangerous conversations that children are having on online messaging systems and Tiscali states that the complexity and efficacy of the software outstrips existing packages that rely on automatic word filters.
Independent tests by Cambridge University have found the software to be 98.4 per cent effective in identifying inappropriate online relationships.
Tiscali spokesperson Alex Hole states: "The relationship with Crisp will help parents keep their children safe online … This software will detect a wide range of inappropriate conduct."
