‘More telecom and broadband packages’ in 2007

The number of combined media, telecom and broadband packages on the market increased during 2007, according to a new market report.
ReportLinker’s 2007 European Telecoms, Mobile and Broadband study observes a greater proliferation of quad-play services.
These incorporate broadband internet with landline and mobile telephony, as well as digital or cable television.
Meanwhile, the organisation claims that the industry may be approaching the cheapest broadband prices suppliers can realistically offer.
"Consumer demand for high-bandwidth services has pushed forward investments in ADSL2+ and fibre networks," the company explains.
"Intensifying competition in most markets has also driven down the cost of broadband access, leaving little scope for operators to reduce tariffs further."
Despite this, the number of broadband packages in place in Europe showed strong growth, the report claims, with expansion predicted until at least 2010.
Recent Ofcom figures show there were 14,961,000 active broadband connections in the third quarter of 2007, up from 14,357,000 in the previous three months.
