UK Online has teamed up with the Institute of Directors to launch a pamphlet to help owners of small businesses understand the benefits of broadband.

The pocket book covers a range of topics, including specific business uses such as web conferencing and mobile and remote working and provides clear information about online communities and business networks.

Also covered are the benefits of e-mail and a company website and unified and instant messaging.

A statement from UK Online said that the decision to launch the pocket book was informed by the lack of clarity that marks existing business-focussed broadband intelligence.

"Much of the intelligence about the internet focuses on the needs of consumers, while for businesses information tends to be at a complex, ‘high end’ technical and strategic level.

"Smaller companies need straightforward advice about what they can sensibly achieve with the resources to hand, and we are pleased to publish a Pocket Book that aligns information about the internet with their business needs" the statement said.
