Post Office targets over-50s market for broadband service

24th October 2007

The Post Office will attempt to target the silver surfer market in a bid to hit ambitious growth targets for its broadband service.

The Post Office has set itself a target of 600,000 users within six months of the launch of the service, which is due to take place next week.

To do this it is aiming to make inroads to the over-50’s market, which account for around a quarter of internet users, the Guardian reports.

Other demographics to be targeted by the Post Office include subscribers with other broadband providers who have since become disillusioned with the standard of service they receive, the firm’s own telephony customers and late adopters of broadband services.

An initial trial of the service in 124 of its outlets has already seen the firm garner 1,000 customers.

Details of the Post Office’s broadband offers were confirmed last week, with the entry level Post Office Broadband deal offering speeds of up to 8Mbps, a 5GB monthly download limit and free set up and modem for £15.95 per month.

Meanwhile, for £20.95 per month the Post Office Homephone with Broadband Standard bundle offers the same upload and download specifications as well as free evening and weekend calls and to other Post Office Homephone customers.

Both deals also include email and anti-virus software, free set up and 24-hour technical support.
