Pipex considers wireless spin-off

Networking company Pipex has said it may sell off its wireless operations in the near future, following disappointing financial results.
The company announced a net loss of £8.39 million during the first half of this year, compared to a profit of £6.06 million during the same period in 2006.
Pipex has already sold off its broadband and telephone voice unit to Tiscali and could now be preparing to spin off its wireless operations as well.
However, it has insisted that its wireless business has "major long-term growth" opportunities and claimed that much of its loss had been as a result of increased start-up costs caused by the launch of its wireless services.
Pipex’s wireless unit offers high-speed internet access via Wi-Max and provides the services to a number of councils across the UK, including Milton Keynes and Warwick.
