O2 postpones launch of broadband service

31st July 2007

O2 has announced the launch of its broadband service is to be delayed, following lower than expected uptake for its mobile phone services.

The service is now set to launch in October, some ten months later than had initially been planned.

Recent figures show that over the course of the second-quarter just 34,000 new customers signed up for O2’s mobile telephone service in the UK, while continuing difficulties in the brand’s German business are also thought to have contributed to the delay.

However, since launching its broadband service in Ireland just over a month ago, O2 has reported that "sales exceeding expectations" and that it has reportedly seen particularly good take-up among business clients.

The service offers download speeds of 3.6Mbps, with packages starting at £10 per month.
