Eclipse is now fully carbon neutral
26th June 2007
After extensive work calculating carbon footprints, electricity consumption and the like, broadband ISP Eclipse is now fully carbon neutral. The move marks the first step towards Eclipse’s campaign to reduce carbon emissions and help reduce the environmental impact of its broadband business, with more initiatives to follow.
In order to calculate its carbon footprint, Eclipse was measured on a number of factors ranging from electricity consumption to business travel and commuting by employees. Although most companies do not take into account the carbon cost of commuting when calculating carbon emissions, it provides a significant amount of a company’s CO2 emissions - 23 per cent in Eclipse’s case.
In order to offset the amount of carbon Eclipse release, they have invested in wind farm technologies in India, a methane capture project in Pennsylvania and a Ugandan forestry project. The beauty of these projects is that they not only help to reduce carbon dioxide but also help to support the local economies.
