Terrestrial TV giants in strategic broadband hook up

It has been reported that Channel 4, the BBC and ITV are in talks to create a one-stop shop for on-demand broadband TV services. The service will also be available to other channels and will allow legal TV viewing on your computer. Channel 5 are not involved in the project at this stage.
Dubbed “Project Kangaroo”, the strategic hook up is expected to be the most important agreement in TV since Freeview launched. The availability of this service is expected to involve set-top boxes and may end up being a direct competitor to Sky and Virgin Media’s paid for services as well as BT’s new BT Vision offering. This may hit these companies hard as Project Kangaroo has the potential to make the paid-for TV giant’s services less competitive if these new services are rolled out with a similar channel list for free or for less cost.
This story is in context with Ofcom’s recent assertion that terrestrial TV should openly be offered openly via broadband as well as by traditional means.
