Epitiro names BT as ‘Best Broadband Provider’

10th May 2007

The news by Epitiro is from their Q1 2007 Internet Performance Indicator Report, and also shows TalkTalk moving into the top 5 for the first time, joining Pipex, AOL, Demon and BT who have been at the top now for the forth consecutive quarter. The table (shown below) is based on technical performance, therefore customers with these providers should experience better connection and faster connection speeds. Orange and Virgin who in Q4 2006 were third and fifth respectively were not in the new top 5.

Overall Ranking              Q4 2006               Q1 2007
1                                  BT                          BT
2                                  Pipex                     Demon
3                                  Orange                  AOL
4                                  Demon                   Pipex
5                                  Virgin                    TalkTalk

With regards to the top 5, Gavin Johns, Managing Director at Epitiro said “In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five.” It is worth noting that these results are based on ADSL and ADSL Max connections, ADSL2+ providers should be added by the Q3 report.

Epitiro’s customer experience monitoring and competitor benchmarking service ISP-I (pronounced “eye spy”), sampled over 630,000 real time data samples from the top ten ADSL broadband providers, meaning that each service was tested roughly 57,000 times between January 1st to March 31st.

ISP-I tests the internet services from the consumers perspective. It provides detailed information on speed and reliability, speed of connection, downloads ,uploads and performance of both Ping and DNS lookups. “The Epitiro Consumer ADSL IPI report gives us a unique opportunity to observe and rate the largest UK broadband providers from the Internet user’s point of view,” added Gavin Johns.
