Almost 80% of UK internet connections to the internet are via broadband

National statistics have shown that in December 2006, broadband accounted for 79.2 per cent of all internet connections. This has risen from 75.8 per cent in September 2006.
Currently there are around 16 million internet connections in the UK, with the majority (10 million) accessing broadband using ADSL over telephone lines.
Also according to the data from national statistics the most common internet speed for most connections (60.1%) is 2Mbs or lower. 32.5% of internet connections are between 2 to 8Mbs and only 2% at 8Mbs or higher. The speed of the remaining 5.4% of internet connections is unknown.
