Digital economy bill 'will not stop illegal filesharing'
Posted 12th March 2010 by Kimberley Howson
Broadband users are likely to continue to share files illegally when the digital economy bill comes into force, new research has revealed.
The study by broadband provider TalkTalk revealed that 80 per cent of 18 to 34 year olds would switch to using undetectable systems if they were threatened with disconnection when accessing P2P sites.
It also found that 66 per cent of respondents feel they would only buy a small fraction of the content they usually access illegally if were unable to use P2P services.
Andrew Heaney, TalkTalk's Director of Strategy and Regulation, said: "Whatever measures are taken it will have little impact on the music industry's coffers but will leave in its wake innocent customers disconnected from the internet."
TalkTalk is the leading light behind the Don't Disconnect Us campaign, which is calling for the government to drop proposals which could see broadband users disconnected for illegal filesharing.
