Broadband and free line rental explained
BT has long held the monopoly on home landline connections. Nowadays, however, you can get your landline through a number of other companies, including internet providers.
Some internet service providers (ISPs) don't even require you to have a landline in order to offer broadband. Virgin Media's packages, because they run on cable as opposed to copper phone wires, do not need a landline.
Broadband and free line rental packages:
- Include line rental in the quoted price
- Do not require line rental for the broadband to work
Don't need a landline at all for your broadband?
If you are someone who does not use their landline connection for anything but running their broadband, why not cut line rental off your monthly bills and set your broadband free? The above packages offered by Virgin Media do not require you to have a landline at all. Meanwhile, the free landline rental deals from Tiscali and Plusnet are fantastic value for money.
Want landline charges included with your broadband?
Bundling your landline in with your broadband package can bring massive savings. Some of the above inclusive packages come in much cheaper than broadband and line rental would come to separately.
Mobile broadband
This is another option for those who don't want to pay landline on top of their broadband connection. However, because mobile broadband packages differ greatly from the home packages listed above, we have not included them in this list.
