Customer reviews
Further to my post on March 25th it is now 21 April and my connection is STILL not working!
Jill Birleson (Hornchurch exchange), 21 April 2008My broadband connection suddenly stopped working on 11th February 2008. Despite numerous calls to technical support and Pipex having admitted that the fault is completely down to them, I am still not able to connect to the Internet. Todays date is 25th March, 2008. I am using a friends computer to type this. Pipex used to be great but not any more.
Jill Birleson (Hornchurch exchange), 25 March 2008I've been with Pipex coming close to a year, they started great but now I get spam, the download speeds are horrific, I sometimes have to wait 5 minutes for a webpage to load, downloading is impossible I would highly walk away if I was you.
harry, 16 March 2008I've been on Pipex for a couple of years and all has been relatively fine, however I am now receiving circa 50 spam mails a day and don't know how to stop them. The spam filter is on - and when I phoned the helpline for advice I was told the best option would be to download a free filter from the net!!!
Why can't Pipex provide a more efficient method of dealing with spam. Or am I missing something???

Tim G, 07 March 2008
I've been with Pipex since 2001. I've changed packages a number of times during this period and they've steadily become worse.
I'm on the 8mb 15Gb cap and it has worsened since Tiscali bought Pipex. Customer service is awful. For the last week I've been barely getting 256K DSL speed. Technical support initially told me that BT were doing work at the exchange, they are now saying that a 1mb cap has been put on my line.I get throttle between the hours 6pm-10pm and their excuse is the number of people surfing at the same time. It's a joke. They say the will ring you back with updates and they don't. If anybody is reading this and thinking of going with Pipex (Tiscali) then implore you not too.
David Thatcher (Barrow-in-furness exchange), 09 January 2008As for comments suggesting that those who use Pipex are lamers - please treat with contempt! I class myself as a heavyweight user, and run a mail server via my "Unlimited Connection." All I can say is speed of service is faultless - 7.2 meg 24/7 and that is actual speed, not connection speed (which sits at 8096). Just a pity they no longer offer my package to new customers!

Reuben Glossop (Liskeard exchange), 30 December 2007- I would just like to say that when a problem arises you can judge a company on how well it deals with the issues. In my case my initial frustration was because I was not told how to complain to the right department . A quick email and a day later it's now all sorted. Never had a problem with the connection or speed and I have been with them since 2003.

Andrew, 22 November 2007 I was on Pipex Max Unlimited - and paying a premium subscription. It was anything but "unlimited", with bandwidth "choking" and what Pipex call "traffic shaping". The result was that I never had more than 2Mbs, and in the evenings it dropped to less than 1Mbs (supposed to be 8 Mbps). Customer service was a joke - typicaly being kept on hold for 30 minutes and then disconnected before call pick-up. On the rare occasions I got through, their helpdesk people were clueless - insisting that the low speeds were down to BT and not Pipex. Emails were ignored. Worse, they'll hold you to the 12 month's contract so you can't even leave their shoddy service. Eventually I had to pay up for the remainder of the 12 month contract and move. I moved to Vivaciti and they cannot be faulted. My speed immediately went up to 4 Mbps, and stays there 24/7 (I can't get more because I'm too far from the exchange). I assume that those who praise Pipex are lamers who only send/receive a little email, and restrict their use to occasional browsing. I can only assume that they're too clueless to notice anything amiss with Pipex.
Tony Morgan (Rhyl exchange), 16 November 2007I have been a long standing customer initially on an unlimited Broadband package. On their advice I switch to the Midi Service limited to 15gb and since then I have had nothing but hassle with over charging for usage that they then say is/was a problem with their internal system. Contacted customer care by email to chase my credit for last months over charging and was told it would be 7-12 days before accounts could look at it. No problem with the connection reliability but customer services has deteriorated over the past 3 months. Before then I was a very happy customer but now looking to switch

Andrew, 13 November 2007Pipex offer good value broadband. I have never had a reason to complain.

Cheryl Manners (Leeds exchange), 15 September 2007I find some of the user comments puzzling, I find that while Pipex are great for the actual connection itself, customer support leaves a lot to be desired. The few times i have had to contact customer support i am on hold for anything from 30 minutes up to 50 minutes - it's hardly worth the bother at times!
They hardly ever get the bill right either, in september 2006 I cancelled a Pipex talk service and got a confirmation of this but I seem to be still be paying.
In short if you don't mind waiting on the phone for ages when you have a problem and getting no replies from Pipex when you email them online, then this service is for you.
When Pipex was a small company, they were fantastic , I was with them for years, but then they got bought out and things have gone downhill since.

Richard, 15 September 2007i've been with Pipex now for three years, it was Homecall before that and if you need to call them its free. Help is at hand from Pipex i've never had down time and never had a problem with bills as they get it right. You will not find a better ISP, forget the rest, Pipex is the best, however one bad point is if you move house it takes time for Pipex to get you back up and running but i can live with that.

royben (Ipsley exchange), 12 August 2007I have just signed up for Pipex Mini. I was really surprised by the deal as I get broadband and phone calls for under £9. It rises after that but only to around £15, which still seems reasonable to me. I also got a wireless router with the deal. I’ve never set up a wireless system before and had to get some help but since it has been in place I haven’t had any issues. The connection is reliable and I’m happy so far.

Laura, 09 August 2007I chose Pipex due to the free connection and as they provided a firewall. This is important to me as I’ve had a lot of previous problems with viruses. Connection is fine but I’m based in London and generally I’ve never had problems with any provider. The big bonus is that I get free phone calls with Pipex. The majority of my family are in Swansea so it’s a good feature and I get a lot of use out of it. The contract period is 12 months. I think this is standard now but it would be good to have the option to cancel earlier if possible.

Francis, 09 August 2007I signed up to Pipex three months ago and the service has been reliable so far. I have had no down time and the connection is fast. My 8MB connection allows me to quickly download music and video. I have only contacted customer services once (to set up a direct debit) and the call centre seemed efficient. No complaints. I have compared the prices to other ISP’s and it is competitive. My first three months only cost £8.95.

Matthew, 09 August 2007I would love to able to use Pipex broadband as it seems to be a lot better than the others.
