Customer reviews
My broadband has been down for three weeks now, I'm sick of dealing with Orange. Their customer helpdesk people just read scripts and don't have a clue. They told me the fault was fixed after two weeks via a txt message, but it was not. So I had to go through the whole stupid proccess with them before. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH ORANGE!
Ian (South Harrow exchange), 16 April 2008I have Homemax and I am paying £24/mth, I am supposed to be getting 8Mb and have never topped 0.5 Mb/s. All attempts at getting better speeds have failed. I would not recommend signing up to Orange. I will honour my contract and will change rapidly. Ofcom has been useless at responding to my complaints.
william williams (Aberdare exchange), 25 February 2008I have had broadband from Orange for over a year now and haven't had any problems at all. I am getting nearly 8Mb download and I have recently moved to the Max product where my line rental is included and free calls on my second line - I also have mobile from Orange which means all of the broadband and second line plus line rental for 15 quid a month - bargain!!

Paul Davies, 06 February 2008Orange customer service department often leaves you on hold for minutes or even hours. They think it's acceptable to make you sign a contract for a utility and leave you with no service for months. They have no acceptable support for older people and non-techies either.
richard lobsiger (Holme On Spalding Moor exchange), 27 January 2008
Last night my Orange broadband stopped working (trust me it happens with any provider), anyway, I found the service from the call centre excellent and they got me back up and running within 10 minutes. Faultless service.

F Herd (Epsom exchange), 09 January 2008Dreadful service - my connection died nearly a month ago and I can't get any sense out of the call centre which is manned by people who don't speak or understand English very well and who are as about much use as a chocolate fireguard.
In the course of "sorting out" my problem they have tied me in to a brand new contract which I will have to pay to get out of!!! Don't touch them with a barge pole!!!!
Linda Dalton (Altrincham exchange), 09 January 2008Great broadband. Cheap calls. Low cost. the perfect broadband package. Orange comes highly recommended.

greg franks, 15 November 2007When it works it can be good but the few problems i have had have been nightmares!!
it took over a month to get connected from recieving the hardware. it has gone down twice since in 12months and the latest problem PPP_server down is running over 12 days to clear after many line tests, costly phone calls and numerous factory resets it still dont work and talking to call centres abroad over very very poor quality lines, please avoid orange at all costs!!
Daniel Baker (Chelmsley Wood exchange), 06 November 2007Pffftttt... I wouldn't even bother. Before I even signed up to them I was treated like rubbish.
Apparently you don't need a BT phone line, etc. Yes, you do, you need to pay BT for your phoneline before you can go anywhere near Orange.
Customer services - rubbish. Called them to ask about signing up. My questions were completely ignored while some monotone fool read me rubbish off of a script. Then put me through to somebody else, which just cut me off.
Disgusting.
The future's bright, but not with Orange!
Cora Newman (Swindon exchange), 21 October 2007Great broadband for £5 a month and free calls to 30 countries. You can't beat it for that sort of money. Once the line was activated, it took all of 10 minutes to get up and running. Shame so many others have had problems.
If only I could get my Nokia N95 on their Unique service (similar to BT Fusion), I'll be an even happier Orange customer. Shame, they have missed a good opportunity there.

Martyn Thompson (Bristol West exchange), 10 October 2007Don't bother. "Unlimited" service is not unlimited.. They WILL clock you. If you download more than 40GB a month (as I did 40.02) you get an "oh so polite" "Stop or we will be forced to close your account" letter. Speed is ok IF the hardware provided worked fine. I'd say go for another provider, anything but orange. Anyhow I guess as name suggests. There's no black and white with them. Only Orange.
David Overs (Great Yarmouth exchange), 05 October 2007Solid if unspectacular broadband. I have had no problem with the support from Orange.

Jon Jenkins (St Andrews exchange), 25 September 2007Disgusting service. Four months it took me to get my crippled mother the free phone calls and internet services she was abliged to pay for. I hate this company for causing my poorly mother and myself extreme stress, hurt, and dignity. Disgusting. By coincidence I run an IT company as a consultant and advisor. I advise strongly against using Orange.
Richard Lobsiger (Starbeck exchange), 25 September 2007I am very happy with my Orange broadband thank you very much. the LiveBox really makes it worthwhile. My mum also has Orange and she too is very happy. Orange are better than AOL.

Kevin Arbiter (Gower exchange), 21 September 2007When I first saw the Orange broadband deal with the free laptop ,it could not have come at a better time. Starting a teacher training course, I needed a laptop and was going to buy one. Instead I got this deal... what a mistake. It has been down now for over two weeks after calling the poor customer support I was constantly being told to call back in 24 hours. After days, I asked to talk to a supervisor, he promised to call back and did not. The support team just read from a book and do not actually know what they are talking about. I do not reccommend this service to anyone. I am now going to cancel and move to another provider.
Kerri Billingham, 21 September 2007I have had nothing but good service for 3 years. I can see nothing to complain about with Orange. The LiveBox is superb.

Charles Kreu (Durham exchange), 21 September 2007Truly awful customer service. Awful reliability. Awful equipment. Avoid Orange at all costs.
alex (Churchdown exchange), 20 September 2007Do not use Orange! - I changed to 2mb in February and I am still getting no better than 0.5mbps after nearly 7 months of calls to them and over 80 emails!. The customer service (or lack of it!) is pathetic!. They promise callbacks and never bother, they promise the problem will be sorted out in numerous e-mails, and after 7 months they have done Nothing! - I have Never known a company as bad as this and get away with it. It's disgusting how Orange can get away with stealing £19.99 a month of me for what little service I get. Do not use Orange!
Andrew (New Brancepeth exchange), 09 September 2007I was worried about Orange after seeing all the bad press, but they seem to be working really hard at improving their customer relations as I've received several phone calls to check that my broadband is OK. Orange Broadband is fine - very similar to the Virgin broadband I used to have.

Tom, 08 September 2007Orange are cr*p. After moving from dial up to broadband, the broadband did not work and after making many phone calls to customer service to put this right, I have now gone to another ISP.
Alan, 22 August 2007I’m making full use of the Orange Wednesdays 2-1 cinema tickets offer, it’s saved my girlfriend and I quite a lot of money already as we’re real film buffs.
The package I opted for includes quite a lot such as a wireless modem, and I love the fact it enables me to play games online by just plugging in my Playstation 2. Unfortunately I spend quite a lot of time competing against my opponents–luckily I can make it up to my girlfriend with a free trip to the cinema!

Andrew, 08 August 2007The Broadband Starter pack was a really good choice for me. I’ve only just started using the internet so felt quite safe knowing there was a 30 day money back guarantee should I decided I didn’t need it. It turns out I use it most days–I even have my own email address!
I didn’t fully understand the technical jargon and I still don’t know what a modem is–but my grandson confirmed I’d got a good deal.

Margaret, 08 August 2007Having an Orange mobile contract meant I got a good deal on my broadband too with a huge monthly reduction as a result. Now for only £5 a month I get 8MB broadband, unlimited downloads and a wireless connection, which is a bargain! Setting up was really hassle-free, even getting the wireless connection to work was easy.
Going with a well-known company such as Orange you expect good customer service, and I work in a call centre so I know what the standards should be. Luckily, Orange haven’t let me down so far!

James, 08 August 2007Orange are fine, customer service is lacking, but it's good value and fast enough for me. Also, if you want to make lots of calls in the evening - you can make free calls with the Livebox. Very good.

Marie Ryder, 03 August 2007Let's get some perspective here, Orange is not as bad as most people make out and I have never had a serious problem with it and the customer service I have encountered has been fine - nothing like what I hear TalkTalk customers have to endure. Orange offer free broadband to people paying £35 a month on their mobile, plus they now offer a £7.99 and £9.99 (unlimited) broadband option for new users. i simply do not see that there a bad option - and you can get up to 8mb too - which is more than enough for the average punter. They may not offer many frills - but you can get free phone calls through the Livebox, plus there's rumours that Orange TV is in the offing. Sign up with Orange and I doubt they'll be too much to regret.

Ant Cooper (Mortlake exchange), 03 August 2007I got Orange at a discounted price with my mobile contract. To start with the service was good, I only got 1Mb on due to my BT wiring, but it was fine for general web use.
The Livebox they give you is pretty cool. You can plug in your printer and print wirelessly and you can cheaper home phone calls with the VOIP phone feature on it.
However after a couple of months something happened and my connection died, which is when I had my first encounter with Orange's AWFUL customer service centre.
I've never been spoken to in such a patronising way before. The call centre staff have a terrible script to read from and there's no deviating from it. The experience left me feeling frustrated, and after two month's of no broadband I finally switched away for good.

Company history
Orange is perhaps best known as one of the UK's largest mobile phone networks and, though this is where company originated, it is now developing rapidly as an ISP. With over a million customers, and bases across Europe, Orange has secured a reputation as a modern, forward-thinking company set on pushing technical boundaries.
Originally Orange was a British company but, since its formation in 1994, it has been taken over by leading European telecommunications giant French Telecom and now has an even greater customer base and range of services. Included within the company are the pre-existing ISPs Wanadoo (which itself was originally Freeserve). The merger has combined Wanadoo's experience with Orange's ambitious ventures.
As a relatively young ISP Orange are keen to prove themselves by ensuring efficiency and excellent value for money.
